Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG)
Men's Artistic Gymnastics is the ultimate display of power and strength and centres around 6 events. Male gymnasts are among the strongest athletes in the world in terms of the strength to body weight ratio.
MAG Events
Floor Exercise
Show off your technique and power in this incredible display of tumbling and twisting. Gymnasts use a 40' by 40' strung floor to achieve lots of height and rotation.
Pommel Horse
One of the hardest events in men's gymnastics is the pommel horse. Learn how to do double leg circles while having excellent balance and support on your hands. There are three levels of difficulty on the pommel: The mushroom for beginners, the pommel horse without handles for intermediates, and the pommel horse with handles for experts.
Rings
The still rings is a challenging event that requires a tremendous amount of strength, balance and swing. If you want to look like an Olympian, you need to become a master of the rings.
Vault
Speed and power are the biggest components to vault. The faster you run, the better at vault you will be. Show off your twisting and rotation skills as you run towards a vaulting platform at just over a meter high.
Parallel Bars
Parallel bars is a challenging combination of balance, swing and support.
Horizontal Bar
The highlight of men's gymnastics is the horizontal bar. Horizontal bar is a tough swing event, but probably the most exciting to watch as the athletes fly over the bar, releasing it and catch it again. It can be amazing to witness and even more fun to do.
Recreational Programs
QCK has two recreational based all male programs:
Pre-Powercat (Age 5-11 skill dependant)
Pre-Power Cat is an all boys recreational program based on Gymnastics Canada’s CANGYM Program and adapted by our Men’s Head Coach to emphasize male events and skills. These generally cover the beginner and Intermediate Levels. Depending on the age and skill level of a class, boys may be placed in advanced.
Boys Advanced (Ages 8+ skill dependant)
This is an all boys recreational program that focuses on more advanced male skills and is an alternative to the regular CANGYM advanced class.
Competitive Programs
Power Cats Program
Power Cats encourages athletes to become strong gymnasts and performers by slowly preparing them for competition. By encouraging personal growth in social, cognitive and mental training aspects in the gym, we not only develop athletes, but also develop individuals with confidence who thrive in school and other social settings.
Provincial/National Programs
Provincial and National level athletes concentrate on advanced skills and elite level competition. As a Provincial or National gymnast there is also the opportunity to get onto Team Saskatchewan or to compete at Nationals.
